'Metalcore is a curious beast. On the one hand, it survives on a steady diet of cliches and tropes, whilst beating an extremely worn track from its forebears, and on the other hand, it is just unabashed fun in its most primal form. There is a heady enjoyment to be had in indulging in bouncy riffs, straight up ignorant breakdowns, and passionate vocal delivery. Awakened aren't reinventing the wheel, and they certainly aren't aiming for any higher musical existence, but they ARE a lot of fun. And in a scene that is full to bursting with overly-serious bands that aren't even aware of their own triteness, Awakened are an absolute ball. You can listen to their entire EP without getting bored, there's a ton of catchy riffs, and if you're like me, it takes you back to a better time when I Killed The Prom Queen, Killswitch Engage and Trivium reigned supreme.
