Bio

***Debut EP {21 Grams} Out Now***

Aya-Rosa is an Australian songwriter, vocalist and guitarist from Brisbane. Since 2009, Aya-Rosa has been traveling the world collecting inspiration for her music, from the depths of the Amazon Jungle to the wide expanses of the Sahara Desert. This period of cross-cultural, experiential growth informs her unique sound as a singer songwriter.

Drawing from 90s indie-folk-rock influences such as Cat Power, Mazzy Star, and the more contemporary Laura Marling, 21 Grams was conceived in collaboration with Melbourne producer Ariel Blum (The Fabric, Cash For Gold, Daughter of Dynamite, Telescopes).

Recorded at the Echidna studios near Melbourne, this six-track EP also features contributions from James Simon and ex-Tehachapi frontman Constantine Stephanou.

The title of the album refers to the ancient Egyptian belief that a human soul weighs 21 Grams. For Aya-Rosa, the soul is best elucidated through the lens of relationships. The record itself, is a captivating exploration of the intricacies of intimacy. Discovering what it means to be human through different relationships, Aya-Rosa delves into themes of infatuation, lust, unrequited love and love lost.

“{21 Grams is} a lovely collection of songs that show off all manner of colours, sounds and textures... {Aya-Rosa's vocals} give her music a great rootsy sound without sounding forced or over the top. … The hazy psychedelic atmosphere allows you to drift off into a dreamy musical trip, sounding like a very chilled out version of Syd Barret era Pink Floyd…”
— Tomatrax: Online Music Magazine

“Her lyrics get me so much because they are so truthful and describe the sorts of things that you do come across in relationships…”
– Ohad Bar, Musician, London

“Hard-hitting drum lines pair with ripping guitar to deliver this collection of alternative rock gems that range from trippy ballads like Love, Lust & Calculated Cruelty to the funky rock jam Prey For You.”
— The Arkademia Music Awards

“Very inspirational lyrics…you can hear the sense of truth in it, that it’s coming from the right place…”
– Tomer Rozenblum, Radio Show Host, 106.2 FM, Tel-Aviv

Country vibes and serious attitude. That guitar sends chills down my spine and the vocals just tie things together so nicely. I'm a fan!

A chilled out psychedelic tune. As the track evolves it takes on many experimental sounds that drift along to create a thick and hazy atmosphere! The explosive, trip-hop outtro gives the song a great twist adding a further dimension to the experience.

A slow, almost bluesy offering. The slow and rolling guitar provides a barren yet vivid country atmosphere. The subtle twangy vocals gives the song a great rootsy sound without sounding forced or over the top.
