Bio

Hailing from Sydney's Northern Beaches, 22 y/o concept rapper Baskiat (who also plays sax and produces his own beats) combines elements of Future Electronica with jazz orchestration to create the Hip-Hop Opera, or "Hip-Hopera" of his upcoming debut album "Sophisticated Fiending." Replacing the materialistic content of New School Hip-Hop with introspective reflection, yet preserving the stylistic power of the form of Hip-Hop; "Fiending" is a fantastical and psychedelic, yet philosophical and intellectual snapshot from the perspective of a young person pivoting between the two worlds of "9-5", conformist, academic society and a passionate, promiscuous, substance driven lifestyle.

Released on the 16th of June, 2014, "Sophisticated Fiending" is a concept album that is raw, sincere and honest in it's portrayal of the state of mind and environment in which it was created. Evading genre, Baskiat is an artist both sonically and contextually relatable for school leavers in an increasingly isolated digital culture; "cutting the bullshit" with poignant and candid accuracy.

Baskiat has been rapping for about 3 years, and producing for 2, playing sax since he was a kid. In 2012 he released his first single "Wisdom," co-produced by Flume, to a great reception online and a brief rotation on Triple J. Since then he has matured as an artist, working with more local talents such as Decypher Us, Nonne MC, Jason Matts and Ranford Bigsby; this local clique from the Beaches holds down residency once a month at BRKLYN bar in Manly. 2013 saw Baskiat and the clique opening for several more established Australian acts including Spit Syndicate, Kerser, Diafrix and Pez.

That beat (Flume's?) is a real winner, it really stands out. Definitely talent in your raps but you seem to overpower the track a bit.
