Every now and then, a band comes along with the sounds of something fresh and promising. Sydney band Battleships fits right into this category. Battleships' music tips it hat to the differing influences of the band’s individual members, blending indie rock sensibilities with the aesthetics of Post-Britpop, to create a sound entirely their own. They set out to create music that they enjoy playing, something that they themselves would listen to...and hopefully, something that you would listen to too. Sydney 4-piece Battleships are the winners of our Homebake competition and will be taking their brand of emotive indie rock to The Domain, Sydney this Saturday December 8.
Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
We didn't start with a certain sound in mind. We really just set out to make music that we would listen to, and hoped that other people would listen to it too.
You’re the winners of our Homebake competition. What can Homebake punters in Sydney expect from the Battleships live show on Saturday 8th December?
We've just finished our own national tour and before that a tour with The Paper Kites and Art Of Sleeping guys, and we're excited to bring the show and the songs to a festival setting.
What most excites you about playing and attending Homebake 2012?
Well it's our first real festival, so everything about it is exciting. We're actually pretty pumped to get out there after our set and see some of the other artists who are playing.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?
"Don't, ever, for any reason, do anything, to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what, no matter where, or who or who you are with, or or where you are going, or, or where you've been...ever...for any reason...whatsoever." - Michael Scott / The Office (US)
What’s coming up for you in 2013?
Well we'll be playing some more shows and touring some more. We've got a few festivals lined up too, which is cool. Definitely keen to write some new material and record a bit too.

It's great ...
It's great to watch Battleships develop into a truly reliable and continually forward thinking local outfit. This tune's another step towards the big things that're on their way for this band.
