Artist:Battlesnake

We formed Battlesnake in Melbourne in 2003: the year of the Great Flood. All three of us had moved over from Adelaide at different times in the couple of years before that, and we'd played together in different bands too: Mike and Gus played in The Silvermine Tapes before and after leaving Adelaide, and Mike and Adam played in Happypatch back in the day. (Going back even further, Adam used to play in My Love Pumpkin and the Wintermind, and Mike used to play solo as The Artist Formerly Known As Mahatt.) Anyway, when we started Battlesnake we decided not to write songs, but just to play. We call the kind of music we do 'free rock': like free jazz, but rock. I know, that sounds awful, doesn't it? One thing in our favour is that none of us ever plays solos: we're the sound of a rhythm section thinking its way through time.
