Bio

Ben David plays an unconventional blend of punk, country and folk, drawing influences from the likes of artists such as Hank Williams, Billy Bragg, Frank Turner, Chuck Ragan and Johnny Cash. With honest and soulful story telling through his catchy songs, Ben David has been turning heads and ears around South Australia and beyond for the past three years. At only 21 years of age, this young singer/songwriter shows prowess beyond his age. Working closely with bands and artists such as Spencer Pig, Isaac Graham, Dan Raw, The Secondhand Squad, Kat Williams, Shivers, Brianna Louise, Mara and Anna J, Ben David shares his strong DIY ethic with those with a mutual love for honest, storytelling rock ‘n’ roll. This musical conviction comes through strong in Ben's live performances; a gritty acoustic punk show full of raw energy. A love for what he does can be found in every song. Having played in bands for most of his youth, Ben David’s music was recently featured with a spot on 2010 Big Day Out (Adelaide) with his band The Thieves. In addition to this, Ben has also had solo support slots with Tom Gabel (Against Me!), Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), Diana Anaid, Monique Brumby and Australia’s very own The Satellites and Zep Boys. Most recently Ben has finished recording a split album with The Secondhand Squad frontman Dan Raw. Both artists recorded 6 songs for the split; the musical instructions embedded in the EP’s title "Keep It Simple, Shitface" (Released locally and online - January 20th). Currently working on a double release titled "King of the Rogue - volume 1 and 2", a compilation of his favourite 50 songs, set to be released July (online) with a launch show where Ben will perform the double set in its entirety. Alongside his busy touring and recording schedule Ben also writes a monthly column for Rip It Up online - "One More For The Rogue", check it out here - http://www.ripitup.com.au/article/2243 With the Release of a split vynyl with Wil Wagner and a full length "In Training" this December and a prospective UK tour in 2012 looks to hold a lot of potential for Adelaide’s folk-punk son
