“Perhaps not to the fans, who knew their infectious world beats and Pacific sound, but certainly for Woodford organisers, the Unexpected Success award has to go to Bobby Alu. With people crammed into the tent and dancing out into the festival streets at each of his three sets, Bobby brought the percussive beats that Woodfordians crave.” Scene Magazine, Woodford Folk Festival Review, Jan 2013. Bobby Alu’s third ever gig was an invitation to the 2011 Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival alongside the likes of Bob Dylan and BB King. Backed by his hot band, Bobby has enjoyed repeat performance invitations at Byron Blues Festival (2011,2012), Woodford Folk Festival (2010,2012) and Island Vibe (2010,2011). Bobby Alu, joined by highly respected musicians including Paulie B (The Beautiful Girls, George), gained instant notoriety with a QLD Music Award, a showcase at AWME (Australasian World Music Expo), a semi‐finalist award in the International Songwriting Comp, numerous major national festival performances and support slots with music heavyweights The Beautiful Girls, Blue King Brown and Katchafire. Bobby’s debut self‐titled album sparked immediate following after being listed in Triple J Roots N All ‘Top 10 albums of 2010’. More recently the album peaked at #2 in the iTunes Aus world music charts. ‘Take it Slow’ is the band’s eagerly anticipated second album and is due for release in September 2013. Fans have been waiting patiently especially after the recent sell-out single launch packing venues out across the country. Bobby Alu is the musical alter ego of Charles Wall, an accomplished songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. His Polynesian heritage and passion for World music are the foundations of Bobby Alu. An obsession with percussion and drums has led to him being one of the top, most sought-after drummers in the country. When he’s not gracing the stages as Bobby Alu, Wall is touring the world as a drummer. He will be playing drums with Xavier Rudd on his upcoming North American tour and continues collaborating with progressive roots/dance trio, OKA. Bobby Alu’s rapid popularity and repeat festival invitations further compliment his already stellar CV. 2013 is looking very bright for Bobby Alu fans, old and new, across the country. LIVE SHOWS: Expect a fresh, positive sound with tastes of Polynesian ukulele, Pacific beats, infectious percussion, pop choruses, beautiful harmonies, memorable vocals, warm smiles and jaw-dropping log drumming.
