Breaking Hart Benton are Michael David, Lee Fielding and Jen Mize. Together the trio have a uniquely modern indie/folk/Americana sound and a strong focus on melodic, lyrically rich songwriting.
Instrumentally, the sound is shaped by the 'clawhammer' Appalachian mountain banjo style and a Delta Blues and Celtic infused guitar style.
These eclectic but historically coherent influences have created, in the words of Phil Young (3MDR, Melbourne) a "refreshingly old approach to new music."
Having completed a successful run of tour dates in 2012 and 2013, and receiving a nomination as a top ten finalist in the MusicOz Awards at the Sydney Opera House, the originality and authenticity of Brisbane based trio Breaking Hart Benton is gaining them some impressive recognition.
The band was selected by a panel of industry experts from Island Records, Music Sales, Mushroom Music and MGM to feature on the 11 track ‘best of 2012’ compilation album for the QUT 100 Songs Project (recorded at Gasworks Studio), they have featured as Top 10 artists on AirIt’s Great Southern Charts tracking over 40 community radio stations around the country and rounded out 2013 in the USA where they played a series of shows as part of the Americana Music Awards and Conference.
BHB recorded their debut full length album (for release mid 2014) in Nashville with legendary producer Mark Moffatt, who quotes on his website...
"These guys came to me once they had their 2013 Americana appearances confirmed and when I heard the songs I said “yes!” This is a very special band and the world will be hearing more of them soon."
