The soul/R&B/jazz-inspired quintet formed in 2012 hail from one of Brisbane's most musically vibrant locales, West End. Lead vocalist and songwriter Ofa Fanaika has amassed a large local following over the past decade through her powerful solo shows and involvement with popular reggae/dub act Chocolate Strings. Fanaika has gone to the effort of assembling some of the best emerging jazz talents, who gel together to form a formidably tight force, able to achieve complex sonic concepts in the studio as well as ad lib impromptu creations on the live stage. Fanaika always wanted to form a band with some jazz players and have a natural crossover between my influences of Soul and R&B music and the voicing’s that jazz emulates. In 2011, she got a tattoo on her arm as a reminder to manifest this band, and a year later – we started forming.
