An ocean on my table is the latest body of work from producer and multi-instrumentalist Captain Earwax (aka Daniel O’Toole) and his sixth full length album. An ocean on my table originally began life as a ‘beat tape’ and sound experiment as Melbourne entered an extended, enforced lockdown of 112 consecutive days. As time passed the sounds developed and started to take shape. Soon there was a pool of tracks, with each adding to the next. “My goal was to make a large number of short form sketches, using microphones and amps to capture the majority of the sounds and working out of the box as much as possible, this playful and introverted approach ended up leading me down slightly different sonic path and the results are a sort of folky dubby record, that bubbles along with a mix of experimental colours and noisy tape textures, with jangly moon guitar riffs (Ruan or Chinese lute) and dubbed out horn sections (ft. Harri Harding) my internet collab buddy from Sydney.” Captain Earwax ...
