Melbourne Indigenous songwriter Carol George is celebrating the release of her debut single “I’ve Changed My Ways”. George won a competition in late 2011, writing a song about her struggles with cannabis addiction in a competition supported by the National Cannabis Prevention and Information Centre. The competition allowed her to record the song “I’ve Changed My Ways” with Skinnyfish Music in Darwin and will be released on June 8 on iTunes. George writes the song from her own experience addicted to the drug throughout her teenage years. “I want to get the word out there about the drug and if it’s affecting you like it affected me in the song then it shows you’re not the only one that’s going through it. Hopefully it gives people a chance to push themselves to make a difference in their own life.” The song competition provides a way for the community to discuss the issue together.
