With Satsuki’s punk inspired lyrics and androgynous vocals and Luke’s production of electro music and eccentric arrangements, Cartoon’s upcoming album is a mixture of energetic, brooding and cheeky songs drawing inspiration from math rock, progressive rock, punk, pop and electro. Originally a three-piece band, Cartoon were friends since kindergarten and started busking after school, gaining their reputation in the North Shore as ‘the onesie band’. Their animated performance and lively covers attracted attention and enticed crowds of people, particularly families and teenagers. At a one-off busk in Pitt Street Mall, they were founded by Adam Boland, former producer of Weekend Sunrise on Channel 7 and presented Cartoon as ‘busking sensations’ and were put through ‘busking boot camp’ where they changed their name and appearance.
