When Paul McDonald and Crystal Rose met by chance in a Balmain pub and bonded over 70's Springsteen, Neil Young and Ryan Adams it was the start of a romance that also led to the creation of the passionate, widescreen rock n roll of Charlie Horse. The music and artistic sensibilities the pair shared quickly formed the basis for the music they would go on to create in their studio in the Blue Mountains. The perfectly distilled desperation of Dolly Parton’s Jolene and the searing beauty of Cortez the Killer combined with Nick Cave and Cormac McCarthy’s visceral imagery and the cinematic expanse of Jim Jarmusch and David Lynch were all influences woven into the the songs that would comprise their self- produced debut album I Hope I Am Not A Monster.
