It’s been a long time between drinks for Chris Duke and the Royals. They launched their last release back in 2011 to a sold out Annandale Hotel playing two sets including one filled with ska punk covers of the entire Lion King soundtrack.

Since then, they have toured around Australia with international acts like Streetlight Manifesto and played with Australia’s best ska bands such as The Bennies, Area 7 and The Porkers. They also released a live CD from that launch night and a music video filmed on a Brisbane carpark rooftop.

Their latest album, PHWOAR! has been an ongoing project over the last three years with the band choosing to adopt a DIY approach to the recording and releasing process. The new songs feature their trademark ska punk party sound and are filled with fat drums, intricate bass lines and huge horn melodies. Their witty lyrics dissect themes through four-part harmonious vocals. One track, Inner West Side Story, tells the tale of the change in their local pubs in the inner west of Sydney after the lock out laws were introduced. Another was written in memoriam of their dear friend and Canberra music scene celebrity, The Ginger Ninja.

They have organised a cracking line up for their mega awesome arvo launch show at The Factory Floor and can’t wait to share these new songs with you.
