Cinema 6 are the refreshingly under-produced pioneers of Melbourne’s raw-wave scene. They interpret film to create music under direction of singer-guitarist Daniel Heeps and sound a bit like a Quidditch final between Buzzcocks and The Strokes. The band’s core cast includes Daniel’s brother and childhood next-door-neighbour: David Heeps on drums and bassist Isaac Borthwick. Influenced broadly by 60s-rock, post-punk and grunge, Cinema 6 are quickly building a loyal fan base for their high energy and intoxicating live performances, incorporating visual elements and cameos from some of Melbourne’s best underground artists. Their first album Reel Love, Magic Reel is a concept album exploring the transformational effects of a shared cinematic experience, an eclectic mix of songs yet it feels like one continuous piece of music.
