The Colli Crew are a group of "diminutive, but razor-sharp rappers" from a remote community on the NSW/QLD border, Collarenebri. This group of ten indigenous young people aged 12 - 16yrs have been participants in a mentoring program with Desert Pea Media, a community & cultural development organisation working in remote and regional indigenous communities since 2003. Desert Pea Media delivers innovative 'hip hop literacy programs', where songs are written with young people, with the objective of empowering, educating and advocating awareness of local social and cultural issues. Over 2 years, The Colli Crew have created six songs and music videos, and performed in cities all around Australia such as The ARIA Awards at The Sydney Opera House, Stylin' Up Festival in Inala, Brisbane and many more. Since the program started, attendance rates at the school have increased by 70%. All proceeds go to developing further opportunities for marginalised young people to be heard and to create...
