Artist:Cycle~ 440

Sam Gillies and Kevin Penkin met while studying a Bachelor of Music at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Cycle~ 440 was formed in 2009 when they sought to fuse Kevin’s love of Japanese game and anime music and Sam’s appreciation for the delicate ambient and extreme noise genre’s. As Cycle~ 440 they create dense soundscapes that very between being hauntingly beautiful, and dense and gritty. To date they have released five full length albums on a variety of labels (Twiceremoved Records, Wood and Wire) with their sixth album "The Topography of Ascending Frameworks" to be released on Sydney label Hospital Hill. Cycle~ 440 are also the winners of the 2013 WAM Experimental Song of the Year award. Sam Gillies is an Australian composer who has a primary focus on electro-acoustic music and the operation of the laptop as an instrument in it’s own right.
