Daniel J Townsend is a sixth-generation Tasmanian living and making music in Darwin.
His latest record was produced by award-winning NT producer Broadwing (Ben Allen) and is being released in 2018 as a series of podcasts, dubbed 'A Tale of Two Cities'. Eight songs, eight episodes, and a whole lot of stories.
Townsend garnered international attention with his 2014 debut, 'Iscariot', which circles the life of the infamous twelfth apostle. His 2016 followup 'World Until Yesterday' chronicles Van Diemonian moments of change and was featured as "new and notable" on NoiseTrade.
He has performed at the National Folk Festival, received standing ovations at Nannup Music Festival (WA) and Fleurieu Folk Festival (SA) and headlined Tablelands Folk Festival (QLD). He launched his innovative "Song Factory" show to a full house at Darwin Fringe Festival (NT) and from the main stage at Tasmania’s legendary Junction Arts Festival. He has also performed at countless festivals, pubs, clubs and living rooms across Australia.
