Bio

Country Victoria’s whimsical singer songwriter, David M. Western has been writing beautifully unassuming songs that slowly creep up on you for a mere five years or so. His profound lyricism and powerful, distinct musical arrangements have already captured the attention of the Australian music landscape despite only having two releases to his name.

Now based in Naarm/Melbourne, the beloved up-and-comer is excited to unveil the first single ‘Instant Life’ from his forthcoming 2021 release and embark upon a new chapter in his songwriting journey.

Since playing shows in Melbourne in 2015, David has been catapulted to the forefront of Australia’s songwriter scene as he continues to interrogate what it means to be a songwriter. Always searching for ways to take strange ideas and make them work, David’s next step is the ever evolving sound of ‘Instant Life’. Out Thursday 26 November, the sprawling new epic soundtracks David’s emergence from creative incubation - a period of reflection and refinement resulting in a fresh outlook on both music and life.

The genesis of a ‘coming-of-age’ tale in David M Western’s debut album, ‘Instant Life’ places the listener in the backseat, pulling out of the streets and hauling away from everything and everyone.

a relaxing blend that put me in such a good place on this late arvo. it's got that same quality as a quieter one from an ocean party album or something like that, no big hooks but a meandering beauty.

David M Western is getting stronger with every release this year. Instant Life has that same kind of magic that Phoebe Bridgers brings to her music. There is an uncanny melancholy that feels so right to sink into, and DMW gently guides you through the feels, even if they make you want to cry.
