D.D Dumbo is an exciting and enigmatic solo artist from Castlemaine, Victoria. His loop-driven experimental pop boasts a captivating blend of world and blues influences as well as some soaring and haunting vocals.
Tell us about your music - how did you develop your sound?
I started D.D Dumbo while living in Melbourne about 2 years ago. I can't say with certainty how my sound has developed, but it had definitely at times been influenced by various "world music" like West African Blues, devotional Indian music, traditional Mongolian stuff, American Blues etc. Perhaps subconsciously most of my stuff normally results as some kind of pop tune I reckon.
What can the crowd expect from a D.D Dumbo live show?
Beyond the tediously awkward semi-coherent stage banter I usually perform solo with the aid of an upright bass drum, snare, 12-string electric guitar which I loop and sing with. Sometimes people dance.
You’re from Castlemaine in Central Victoria. What can you tell us about the arts and music scene there?
Yeah, Castlemaine is top notch. Lots of enthusiastic people live here and take part in various art events, there is always something happening in town. There's the Bridge Hotel who put on live music most days of the week. A community radio station with eclectic programming.
Who are some other Australian bands/artists that everyone should be checking out this year?
Mmmm. How about... Sunbeam Sound Machine, Beat Disease, Love Migrate and Lower Spectrum.
What are your plans for D.D Dumbo in 2014?
I've got some shows in Sydney mid Jan and late Feb which is a first for me. Recording some new stuff and hopefully some touring.View Profile Hide Interview
