Artist:Desmond White

Bassist and composer Des White was born in South London, England in 1978, immigrating with his family to Perth, Western Australia in 1982. Studying piano from the age of 8, Des displayed a natural ear for performing and composition, encouraging his parents to enroll him in a specialist music program in conjunction with his schooling. In 1996 Des successfully auditioned for the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts on saxophone and bass. After completing a two-year course in Computer Science, Des commenced studies at WAAPA in 1998, playing electric and double bass. During his time at WAAPA, Des began actively performing in the Perth music scene, playing jazz, R&B and Latin music with local artists, whilst simultaneously studying performance and composition under renowned musicians Paul Pooley and Graeme Lyall.
