Bio

Intro:

Hailing from the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Dial Denial love who they are and what they do & are dedicated young musicians who want to write songs that resonate with people & aspire to entertain and bring fans on their journey through their music. “We’re a band who put passion, energy and emotion into our music that we love creating. We combine teen angst with a stupid sense of humour. Our live shows involve a lot of jumping around, headbanging, hair flicking and a bit of screaming. We also poke a lot of fun at each other and love crowd interaction.”

History:

Connecting at Big Music Studios and driven by common music interests and goals, Dial Denial was formed. It was clear from the very beginning of their songwriting of original material that they all just clicked and had a unique bond and style. Meeting on a weekly basis with band coach Ash Rothschild (Caligula / Panic Syndrome), Dial Denial have recorded and released 8 songs and have performed the following gigs:

- Finalists: Gotcha4Life/Triple M Rock Ball Battle of the Bands at Australian Technology Park June 2018
- Finalists: Ryde Rocks at North Ryde Common January 2019
- Runners Up: ShoreShocked Band Comp at Hornsby and Chatswood Youth Centre March 2019
- Northern Composure Band Comp at Dee Why PCYC April 2019
- Underproof Northern Beaches Edition: Opened for Hockey Dad at Dee Why PCYC June 2019
- 8 gigs @ Big Music School and Studios
- Many gigs busking @ Manly Corso
- Wizards of Oz Rock School Tour at The Wickham Park Hotel, Newcastle July 2019
- Northern Composure Acoustic Most Improved at Manly Library 2019
- Intercity Odyssey in Melbourne, Wrangler Studios and Big Music Studios 2020
- Shoreshocked 2020 Winners at West Ryde Youth Centre
- Northern Composure at Mona Vale Memorial Hall 2020

Quotes about the band:

-Isabella Manfredi: "Dial Denial, they remind me of a young Midnight Oil."
-Happy Magazine: “Dial Denial, who may be young but damn, they put on a fiery show. They know how to work the stage, how to play a huge guitar solo, and their originals were tight as a nail.”
-Happy Magazine: ”Sydney garage punk outfit Dial Denial are back with their first single of 2020, Buy Yourself A Boyfriend. The new track, as has come to be expected from the band, is an explosion of blistering guitar riffs and direct lyricism.”
- Shorecomp Judge 1: "Punchy and Upbeat right from the start! Immediate engagement with the audience and headbanging was undeniable!"
- Shorecomp Judge 2: "They looked as if they were having an awesome time and through that, they were able to bring the crowd on a wild journey!"
- Shorecomp Judge 3: "They are all competent musicians and the whilst the lead vocals, harmonies and lead guitar was on point, the rhythm section was really tight and stood out which is rare to see and it provided a solid platform for the soloing!"

Goals:

Although they couldn’t be happier with their strong start at a young age, Dial Denial are setting their sights on a professional music career. Whilst short term goals include keeping the live gigs rolling, writing songs that resonate with people, establishing themselves and building up their fan base, long term they’re planning to establish a live music venue and provide mentoring and performing opportunities to future generations of musicians as well as touring the world with other famous artists.

On a more personal note:

Vocalist and lyricist, Fergus (Gus) Harley-Macdonald, originally started his musical journey as a drummer however quickly wanted to become a singer after being inspired by the lyrics of Gerard Wey (My Chemical Romance). Gus’ lyrics started out as being political views on world situations or self-experiences but in the near future, he is looking to combine these foundations to ultimately provide deep and meaningful lyrics that resonate with people. He is musically inspired by bands such as My Chemical Romance, Slipknot and Midnight Oil (to name a few), and also takes inspiration from his favourite singer, Corey Taylor (Slipknot).

Owen Borg, guitarist and songwriter, has been practically playing music his whole life. Starting at an early age with piano but drawn to the guitar at age 7, he is driven by the desire to play and write music, often as an obsession, never wanting to put the guitar down. Earning his place as Guitarist of the Year 2018 at Big Music School and Studios, Owen loves performing live gigs and writing music that resonates with people. Musical influences include Periphery, Yours Truly, Amaranthe and Alter Bridge. Owen’s favourite guitarists are Misha Mansoor, Jake Bowen and Mark Holcomb from Periphery, Nita Strauss, Matt Heafy, Slash and Plini.

Originally picking up the guitar at an early age and transitioning to bass at the age of 12, bassist Bailey Pike takes his musical inspiration from bands such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Blink 182. He might be the most laid back you’ll ever meet but when he gets on stage he can sure pump out a groove. His favourite bassist is Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers).

Drummer, Justin Borg, loves performing live and loves to joke around and make people laugh. He is inspired by the music of Sum 41, Slipknot and Fame on Fire and his favourite drummers include Joey Jordison (Slipknot) and Travis Barker (Blink 182). Whilst being the youngest member of Dial Denial, he can sure do a mean drum fill!
