Since emerging mid 2012 Songwriter/Producer Dylan Hill has mostly kept himself hidden, gathering a sense of direction and building a foundation to frame his debut EP. Though out of sight, Hill has familiarized himself with an array of up and coming artists, playing along side and collaborating with Eliza Hull and Hayden Calnin on Hull's EP, 'The Ghosts You Never Catch', out October 4 2013. In the coming months Dylan Hill will be releasing his debut EP revealing his first collective work in a autobiographical style, featuring guest vocals from fellow unearthed artists Tanya Batt and Eliza Hull. Accompanying the release will be a wave of live shows with appearances from Hull and Batt. Lose yourself in the hypnotic downtempo electronica of Melbourne songwriter/producer/ponderer Dylan Hill.
Tell us about your music - how did you develop your sound?
I try to make simple things, with a certain vagueness to what it all means, things tend to end up not making much sense, lyrically especially, so I make simple music.
What would a Dylan Hill live show be like?
As it stands there isn't one yet but, most of the songs are very new, but in the next three months or so something will come together in terms of a live show, hopefully incorporating more than just a laptop.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?
Having been studying applied music as part of my degree over the past two and a half years I've meet a range of talented musicians and producers over that time; one being Andy Hart (from Melbourne Deepcast - label/podcast/site) who's had a wealth of lessons to share with me in producing and writing tunes.
Tell us about the bands and people in the Melbourne music community that inspire you.
I can think of one guy who's been doing some cool things that I found recently; "Thrupence". You can find him on unearthed. Really textural, good production, just some great vibes.
What’s coming up in 2012?
A live show is all in the works right now and hopefully some kind of release in the next 6 months will go ahead too.
