Bio

With her exquisite melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and powerhouse husky voice, Elli Schoen is one of the most promising young acts to emerge from Fremantle’s rich music scene. Drawing on deeply personal experiences of love, friendship and heartbreak, her beautifully-crafted songs are driven home by arresting vocals – and spliced with hilarious on-stage banter.

From a young age, Schoen found solace from the mundane in her guitar and notepad. Armed with just three chords, she managed to write and record a stack of gorgeous, raw and authentic songs. Now years later, the Fremantle hairdresser has grown into a professional recording artist with a growing catalogue of slick, beautifully produced pop music - without forsaking her pure and honest sound.

The past year has marked a turning point for Elli with a set on the main stage at Falls Downtown, showcase at the Perth International Arts Festival and a slew of supporting slots for high profile artists – including Tash Sultana, Airling, Julien Baker, Bec Sandridge and even Ronan Keating. She’s also been added to support Killing Heidi at their reunion show, and to showcase at SOTA Festival in WA.

After a big 2016 and huge start to 2017, Elli looks set to put down the hair scissors once and for all. Her hotly awaited sophomore EP Gold Mess - produced by Joel Quartermain (Meg Mac, Eskimoe Joe) - was released on April 25. The first two singles Hard Heart and Mumma saw her break onto the national scene, with both tracks pricking up many industry ears. Third single and EP title track Gold Mess was premiered on triple J’s Home and Hosed.

Touring nationally May - June

"She oscillates between a mellow timbre, lithospheric high notes and crystal clarity. Equal parts broken, redemptive and buoyant." – Rolling Stone Australia

“One of the purest voices to be unearthed so far in 2016, Elli Schoen's new single, Mumma, is an enchanting piece of indie-pop.” - Pilerats

“Elli Schoen is not just one to watch. She is THE one to watch. Magnificent melody, broken and beautiful.” – Abbe May

“A thing of beauty… arresting vocals…. infectious track.” - The West Australian

“If there’s one thing Australia’s music scene needs more of it’s genuinely talented indie folk artists like Elli Schoen.” - Tonedeaf

“Her distinctive voice is captivating, but that wouldn't mean much if the songwriting wasn't top shelf…. A very exciting up and coming Perth singer.” - Double J

“Mumma builds amongst deep echoing guitar as the perfect backdrop to the infectious chorus line that will surely be on Summer playlists everywhere.” - AU Review

"She’s the act you don’t recognise on the lineup but upon hearing live, outshines the headliner, then you download their entire catalogue” - 5Why

“The powerful, anthemic new single [Mumma] from WA artist Elli Schoen further establishes her as one of the most promising artists from the state.” - The Music

More impressive stuff from Elli. She's been building towards something big for the last little while and looks ready to grab her moment.
