About
Encarta is an Experimental Rock octet from the Adelaide Hills, comprising distorted guitars, walls of rhythm, ancient themes and shipwrecked horns. Formed in 2011 and having spent most of 2012 honing their sound and clocking studio hours, they pieced together a set of songs that would become their self titled debut LP. Recorded at Hillside Studio's with Matt Hills (Wolf & Cub) and mastered at the Lodge by Heba Kadry (The Mars Volta, Zechs Marquise), the album plays like a concept piece and draws inspiration from a dark landscape of sounds, yet has lighter cinematic touches. Influences such as Zappa, Zorn's Masada, Mastodon and TMV remain prevelant throughout the album, and the bands choice of instrumentation allows them to entertain their ambitious vision and eclecticism. Incorporating 8 members gives Encarta's live performances a chaotic energy full of dark and light contrasts, and a density of sound rare in the modern scene.
