Sanders Season
Get ready! Brisbane Hip Hop artist Erik Sanders is about to dominate this year’s Sprung Festival as our triple j Unearthed comp winner! Check out his latest track ‘Purple Panther ft Reese Laflare’. It’s fun, bright and loaded with energy.
Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
I grew up in a hip-hop family, so it was natural for me to find a love for the music. When I started, I used to rap in a boom bap lyrical style but I ended up finding a good balance between rapping but still being melodic at the same time because I really wanted my melodies in my music to stick with people.
What’s your greatest source of inspiration for making music?
Taking a break from writing and living life for a few days.
Tell us about your latest single ‘Purple Panther ft Reese Laflare’.
I had been sitting on 'Purple Panther' for a minute, trying to find a good feature for it, and I happened to meet Reese Laflare at a showcase we both performed at in Sydney. So it worked out perfect to get him on the song after we met. This is also my personal favourite song I've made by far.
What can punters expect from an Erik Sanders live show?
Heavy bass, auto-tune and thunder.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?
The best advice I've received was from myself. Which is to not get too attached to things in life because everything around us is disposable. Houses, clothes, people etc. Things come and go so I had to accept that at a very young age and live with it.
What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?
Erik Sanders - 'In The Air Feat. Allday'.
What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?
Shannon Noll - 'What About Me'.
You’re the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?
That's a no-brainer! Erik Sanders - Purple Panther Feat. Reese Laflare
What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?
Travy P at The Black Bear Lodge. I played that night as well. Travy turned that place upside down with a sore throat. It was beautiful.
Tell us about the bands or people in the Brisbane music community that inspire you.
Strictly the people in my friend circle. It's a small circle but we all understand each other's intentions and vision.
What are your plans for 2017?
Keep playing shows, keep getting my money, lining up the flex for next year, and drop a new single since my EP got pushed to the start of 2018.
