Under the umbrella of contemporary folk, Essie Thomas mixes soulful vocals, a roots/blues twist with just a pinch of bohemian gypsy jazz. Described as “A songwriter who doesn’t mess with her words” (Blank Magazine, GC), Essie Incorporates live loops and awe-inspiring guitar.

Drawing crowds to Australian festival stages since the early 2000’s and after extensive international touring across Canada and The USA, Essie is ever changing her styles and influence.

Essie Thomas leaves you with an appetite for more, whether solo or as a band, her stage presence alone will leave you hungry and ready for another taste of what Essie has to offer. Essie has graced the stage at many of Australia’s Favorite festivals: Woodford Folk Festival, Port fairy Folk Festival, Splendor in the Grass, Seven Sisters, Kuranda Roots, Palm Creek Folk Festival, Island Vibe, Earth Frequency Festival, Rainbow Serpent.

As well as supported some of Australia’s finest: Shane Howard, Shellie Morris, Hiatus Kaiyote, Mojo Juju, Liz Stringer, Gail Page, The Rusty Datsuns, CC the Cat, The Lucky Wonders, Felicity Lawless and Wolfmother to name a few.

I love live recordings because they show so much talent lies behind the music, and there is a lot. Essie continues to make my heart shine. I am jealous of the power of her voice and the way Essie captures you in her narrative.
