Bio

It's love forever with the brand new single from Sydney's bedroom-pop firebrand Felix Lush. An ode to his IRL girlfriend and a sweet salute to young lust, "Juliette" is a soaring synth jam that takes its cues from pioneers like New Order and OMD, as much as recent proponents such as Porches and Wild Nothing.

Felix says, "The song is my love song dedication to my girlfriend. Sometimes I think people are worried about being outright about love but it's important to tell that special someone how much they mean. 'Juliette' is for every dorky kid out there who just wants to tell their partner how much they mean to them."

It also marks Felix's signing to local management arm Jerko, home to Bleeding Knees Club and High-tails. The "Juliette" single is his first fresh material since 2016's debut 5-track EP "State Of Mind", a smartly-crafted set of romantic new wave and taut post-punk that Happy declared "an absolute banger ... the songs are as diverse as they are dreamy".

The Felix Lush project came about in the wake of the end of two bands - although just 21 years old, Felix is a veteran of Sydney favourites Bearhug and Claire & The Cops. Almost by accident he found himself recording alone at home, with no agenda other than to satisfy and entertain himself. Inspired by local acts like Lace Curtain and Holy Balm, Felix taught himself to program drum machines and relished the opportunity to make music quickly, as a totally DIY experience.

Completely written, recorded and mixed by Felix at home over the space of just a few weeks, the "State Of Mind" EP saw Noisey rave "Blending pumping 80s drum machines and pop-driven guitar phrases to create bouncy, upbeat disco-pop anthems, it's like a bruised candy apple", while triple j Unearthed's Dave Ruby Howe said of its title track
"(it's) got that New Order 'Low-Life' era feel to it, so of course I like it". Subsequently its second single "Makes Me Wonder" has been smashed on Unearthed this year, and was recently remixed by local darkwave lord Buzz Kull.

To take his songs on the road, Felix assembled a tight-knit four-piece band featuring Mahne Frame (Kirin J Callinan), David Gauci (Death Bells and Las Vagueness) and Greta Balog (Greta Now). The outfit have supported Toro y Moi (USA), Cate Le Bon (Wales), Methyl Ethel and others, as well as playing slots at Volumes, BIGSOUND, King Street Crawl and BAD Festival. themusic.com.au gushed of a recent live show "It was a fluent melancholic rush from start to finish".

I keep returning to this unexpected earworm. I think it might be that chorus full of believable heartache

If Felix Lush was your housemate you'd offer to do a year's worth of dishes if he'd let you join his band, they're that cool.
