New pop project FETES is the brainchild of Sydney singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Cristian Campano.
No stranger to the main stage, Campano fronted Triple J endorsed garage-punk band Food Court. Leaving the gritty band sound behind, FETES is a solo exploration into a world of Psych-Pop meets Drum and Bass and back again.
Written in Sussex Inlet on the NSW South Coast and produced by Lachlan West who has performed with the likes of Gordi, Walk The Moon and The Griswolds, FETES debut single ‘Waiting For You’ was the result of the pair bunkering down into West’s home studio in the Inner West of Sydney. There they played with various recorded sounds, fusing elements of Britpop, Drum and Bass and Psych-Pop into the debut single.
“From years of loving Drum and Bass, I’ve always wanted to incorporate the fast break beats and heavy bass into my music,” Campano explains. “’Waiting For You’ was calling out for an exciting drum sound so once we injected the Drum and Bass, there was no turning back.”
'Waiting For You' is about trying to be happy in the moment. About trying to stop and enjoy the highs in life rather than anxiously looking for what's next. It's about accepting the lows as a normal part of our existence. As Campano explains, it’s all about “being comfortable in every situation and trying to be at peace with yourself.”
