Bio

Perhaps it was waking up each morning to the sound of his father’s voice singing Irish ditties while shaving in the backyard. Or perhaps it’s his penchant for anything honest and real in this world. Either way, Matthew Clancy and his fellow Fishermen write and play songs like their collective souls depend on it. Hailing from Melbourne’s western suburbs The Fishermen play a raucous, hard-hitting brand of country/folk that will call to mind such names as The Pogues, The Waterboys, Billy Bragg, Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan and Nick Cave. They boldly strike the melodious chord without relinquishing it amongst flimsy lyrics and trendy haircuts. Instead, Clancy’s gritty delivery of veracious political and emotional sentiment straps the collective heart to the sleeve and marches it proudly down the dusty road. Having played extensively around Australia with various bands, these four good friends came together in 2006 to create a live show that will give both band and audience a good time. They are accomplished and hard-working musicians who are ready to make Australia sing-a-long with them. Enjoy.
