Fluoxetine is an antidepressant drug, most commonly found in Prozac and its generic version, Lovan. In some cases, within the first 14 days of taking the medication, some people experience intense feelings of depression and suicidal tendencies. Fluoxetine the drug and Fluoxetine the band have something in common: like the drug their music takes you from one extreme to another. In 1998 Paul Handel (geetar) and Morgan Lawless (bass) created On All Fours, with drummer Paul Robertson. But there wasnt room for more than one Paul in the band, one of them had to go and it certainly wouldnt be geetar genius Paul Handel. So in 2003, Nick Parkinson (drums obviously) joined the band and it was renamed Fluoxetine. For a year the boys played funk, punk, metal, jazz as an instrumental three piece. Then, one night at a packed show in their hometown of Katoomba, while playing their fourth encore (true!), Jesse Sudich (vocals) could take it no more. He heard the band begin a cover of Tommy the Cat and he had to freaking sing! To everyones surprise, most of all Jesses, he was invited to join the band. And now, Fluoxetine is complete. Although half the band now live in Sydney, for the past ten months the band have had a residency at well known Katoomba venue, Triselies, always winning new fans and retaining a crowd of passionate regulars. In June they completed the demo, Smug Druggling, which you are now listening to (or are about to, or already have). They then played three launch shows at Triselies in Katoomba, the Oxford Tavern in Wollongong and the Cat n Fiddle in Balmain, where they sold all one hundred copies. To our surprise, a great deal were sold at the two shows where regular fans were absent.
