Bio
Sydney trio Freesouls return off the back of the success of their breakout single "Living Legend" with their new single "Time Off" featuring Sydney hip hop royal Huskii.
Experimenting with pop-punk melodies, "Time Off" started as something completely unexpected when the crew first jumped into the studios at 1LANE. Collaborating for the first time with producer MRVLS (pron; Marvelous) the song quickly evolved into something that was reminiscent of previous records whilst offering something new.
From the beginning, MRVLS’ production boasts unique synth layers followed by intricate trap percussion creating the perfect platform for vocal melodies that radiate in the exact right places. Tight, succinct verses from Jamel and Jordan carried by the earworm of a hook we have come to expect from King lead into the rare Huskii feature who engages and delivers a sentimental, raw verse with purpose. Time Off’ truly reflects versatility and range, both individually and as a group collective.
"We have been putting everything into our music and our exploration of sound. We want to create something that leaves a lasting legacy and we can be proud of for a long time. "Time Off" is a track we are really proud of and it’s a culmination of where our music has been and where it is going. It’s been a hectic year" - Freesouls
Get to know this week's triple j Unearthed Feature Artist, Freesouls!
Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
Our sound is the result of the three of us being strong personalities with our own individual musical tastes, coming together and learning to take the best parts of what inspires us and mixing it together into something greater
What’s your greatest source of inspiration for making music?
As we’ve matured as artists and as a crew, we’ve started to look to ourselves for inspiration, always looking to build and improve on what we’ve done.
What can punters expect from a Freesouls live show?
Hectic vibes. Jumping, yelling, partying without judgement.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given and who was it from?
“Believe in yourself, trust the process, and work hard” from our manager Malek.
What Australian track would you play to cheer up someone who was crying?
'Send It' by Hooligan Hefs
What Australian track would you play to someone to make them cry?
'Still Stressin’' by Huskii
You’re the DJ at a party. The dance floor is pumping. What Australian track do you put on next?
'Time Off' by Freesouls
What was the last local gig you went to? How was it?
We opened up a show for our brothers Cult Shotta at Oxford Arts Factory. It was a seated show but the energy was mad and people had to constantly be reminded to sit down.
Tell us about the bands or people in the local music community that inspire you.
Aus music is popping rn so there’s a lot of inspiration around us. First and foremost we gotta shoutout our boys MRVLS, Tzantza and Boy who are artists in their own right but also help us to create our own music. Our manager Malek is a huge inspiration and voice in the underground hip hop scene for years. To add to that we’d say Gravy baby, Voke, Kerser, Huskii, Triple One, Cult Shotta, Elijah Yo, Biggs and A.Girl just to name a few. There’s too many people to name which just speaks to how hard the Sydney music scene is going.
What are your plans for the rest of 2021?
We have a single dropping Feb 26th which will be the second single off our upcoming tape ‘DRILLSOUL’ dropping May 28th. From there we’re gonna keep grinding in the studio for the next project and tour as soon as possible.

A crew that can do it all - they got the vocal chops, the bars to back it up and tracks that make you feel a real type of way. Freesouls taking off in 2021.
