Bio
We started in early 2007 as nothing more than a chance to play alongside our idols Rizzo And Pizzo, but after Miami Horror joined the group and started making us beats people have been going crazy for our coochie club music. We've played with artists such as Muscles, Bang Gang, Riot In Belgium, Surkin and Headman and are going to be touring shortly with UK dance punk kids New Young Pony Club. We hope you like our music and we look forward to partying and talking about shoes soon.
These cool young kids from Melbourne have got the attitude, the beats and the clothes to match. We chat to Jess to find out what they've got in store for Parklife audiences and how they write their songs.
Gameboy/Gamegirl are the winners of our Parklife VIC competition. More about this competition »
What can the Parklife crowd expect when you take to the stage?
Well probably something unlike anything they've ever seen on a Saturday afternoon. Banging dance moves, crazy outfits and just a twinge of the nervous nerds we all are underneath our ghetto exteriors. Love us or hate us there isn't a lot you can do to stop yourself dancing.
Who are you most looking forward to seeing on the Parklife line-up this year?
M.I.A. We worship her, her rhymes, beats and style are all extremely enviable. She wears a lot of the English brand Cassette Playa and that's really the aesthetic we're into. Of course we're also very excited to see Justice, Busy P, K.I.M and the sweet Muscles.
Tell us about your local music scene.
We've fallen into playing club nights because that's the sound we most seem to fit with. We have a clothing sponsor, Melbourne label "George Terrific" and we play at the club that they run (Third Class). When you're starting out it's good to hook up with other people in that situation. The real scene in Melbourne is integrating art music and fashion. Everyone can be a part of something here.
How do you go about writing your songs?
Well it all usually happens spontaneously and randomly. We get together to write and nothing happens then one of us has a brainwave at an odd hour and we work from there. Our newest writing experience saw us writing novelty words and putting them in a hat. The whole song and title came out of it in the end, "Sneaker Poppin'."
What surprises you?
From when we got together to begin something at the start of the year everything has been a surprise. Hooking up with Miami Horror and working with him to define our sound we had no idea of how far we would come. Every time we play and we look at the audience and they're singing along we give each other these incredulous looks. "How did we get here?!" It's been amazing though. It's what makes it so much fun.
What have you got planned for the future?
We are supporting New Young Pony Club for some of their shows when they return later in the year. Our E.P is mere weeks away from being released and we're starting slowly to plan a self funded world trip. We figure now while the kids love us we might as well get out there as much as we can. More hilarious stories to tell the grandkids!
Australian music is...
in a good position at the moment. The world is watching our scenes to see what's gonna come next and loving it. Look at guys like Riot In Belgium and Muscles. Small beginnings but they're massive now.
