Bio

You can usually tell a band’s connection to one another through their music, and for Perth-based trio Ghost Care, that connection runs deep in every single thing they do.

Originally, Ghost Care began as a new project between vocalist/guitarist Beau Torrance and drummer Luke Del Fante, with the intention of bringing on a new guest collaborator for every track they released. The first guest was Tanaya Harper - already known as a local favourite through her work with indie-rock outfit Bells Rapids - and the spark was so instantaneous that she became Ghost Care’s third member, joining as a bassist/vocalist. Since then, the three-piece has blossomed in both sound and kinship, becoming a staple within West Australia’s music scene and growing closer to greater national glory with every move they make.

After sharing their debut single in 2019, Ghost Care have consistently gone from strength to strength. Their debut EP - 2020’s Outdoor Recreation Centre - was an introductory four-tracks of catchy indie-pop-rock, combining the anthemic nature of favourites like Ball Park Music with the fun and playfulness you’d expect from Phoenix and HAIM. In the same year, they diversified their sound with three more gems - ‘Midnight’, ‘Oxygen’ and ‘IDKY’ - while on the live stage, they became go-to additions to lineups across West Australia, building a cult-like audience as they travelled through the state.

It’s in their live show that Ghost Care’s connection to one another shines brighter than anywhere else. Brought together by their close-knit friendship, the three members bounce off one another’s energies on stage, whether it’s in Beau and Tanaya’s back-and-forth vocals or in how they joke and laugh in between songs. At times, it looks like they’re having so much fun that you want to be a part of the band itself. “No matter how busy we are in our lives, I’ve never had a gig where I’ve gotten up on stage and not wanted to be there,” says Tanaya.

After a sold-out run of shows with Spacey Jane at the end of 2020, all eyes are now on Ghost Care for the year ahead and the breakthrough they’re destined for - and deserving of - in 2021. ‘Kevin Garnett’, a riff-fuelled return from the trio whose video premiered on triple j Unearthed, brought a taste of Ghost Care at their newfound best, showing how they’ve developed their sound over the last 12 months. Now, their second single for the year - the Pilerats-premiering ‘Only Friend’ - makes it two from two, capturing the versatility and polish of the trio and proving the excitement surrounding them is well worth the noise.

Loved 'Kevin Garnett' from this band and they're not leaving my playlist anytime soon thanks to the release of this slick new song. Swinging indie moves from a band that's really hitting its straps in 2021.
