Bio

Goodnight Japan is a four-piece indie band hailing from Sydney, Australia. Their music combines elements of The National, Pavement, and Rolling Blackouts CF with the raw energy of the 70s New York art punk scene.

Their 2018 debut album The Kitchen Is a Dangerous Place earned them a slot at Roxy Festival 2019 in Guadalajara, Mexico, playing alongside heavyweights such as Future Islands, Robert DeLong, and Stone Temple Pilots.

Founded in 2016 by Abel Ibanez Galvan (vocals/guitar) and Gemma Conroy (bass), Goodnight Japan has grown to include guitarist Meredith Lane, and drummer Joel Van Gastel who has played with the likes of Gang of Youths and I Know Leopard.

They have become a regular fixture in the Sydney music scene playing to crowds at The Oxford Art Factory, The Factory Theatre, and The Vanguard.

There's a studied quality to the shuffling indie rock this band are making. Like, if your cool older cousin put this on a mixtape for you between bands you'd only ever read about like Guided By Voices and Television you wouldn't bat an eyelid.
