Artist:GRIPPING WATER

On the eve of releasing of their second EP “Don't be Fooled” recorded and mixed with Ricki Rae (Electric Mary) in late 2009, up and coming Melbourne rock band, “Gripping Water” offer us a fresh take on female rock vocals, the artistic flexibility of standard or upright electric bass, and a solid foundation of metronomic prowess behind the kit. Having played guitar since childhood, singer/songwriter and founding member, Ellie Rosenthal, decided she needed a change of scenery, and so moved from Adelaide to Melbourne in 2001. With multiple musical collaborations under her belt she formed a duo act and started playing out in and around Melbourne in 2004, but it was not till 2005 that she met up with Bass player, Tony Belajin. This meeting of minds would prove to be the genesis of what is now “Gripping Water”. Ellie’s vocal style was geared to the heavier side of rock, more than one would expect of a most female vocalists.
