Bio

Defiantly vulnerable and sonically immersive, Groovy Daughter’s empowering musical vignettes make sense of a 20-something’s increasingly turbulent world.
Riding hot off her acclaimed debut “Tyro Dreamer” in 2018, 2019 saw a Groovy Daughter reach new heights, landing a series of high-profile shows with Slum Sociable, Thandi Phoenix, and Groovin the Moo. In the wake of the 2020 pandemic, Groovy Daughter doubled-down on her emotionally captivating live performances with a series of online shows, culminating in a performance on the Isol-Aid line up alongside Camp Cope, Alex the Astronaut, and Courtney Barnett.
After catching the attention of fellow Canberra icon Citizen Kay, the two knuckled down to write and produce her 2020 lead single “Harsh” - a stark trip-hop-inspired ballad tackling the deep-rooted self-criticism that has become commonplace in an era of chronic social-media dependence.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Amy Winehouse, H.E.R., Montaigne, and Arlo Parks, Groovy Daughter’s confessional yet cinematic soundscapes flawlessly capture the often-gruelling push and pull of millennial life.

Are you kidddddding me this is so good. The beat and lazy guitar n bass, topped off with that unwavering warm vocal is so lush

Harsh is an immediate experience - a voice that grabs you by the collar and a groove that does it justice. This sort of soul record can often sound a little done, but you bring a freshness to it.
