Bio
"Filthy guitars, stoner lyrics and a sly, shifting rhythm give The Growl's debut single a Morphine-grade gravitas. This is heavy stuff from the new Perth four-piece, grimy, sexy, confident blues rock that will leave the taste of iron on your tongue. Nice." - Beat Magazine "The quartet have a solid grip on the gritty, dark and sultry sort of blues that inks the images from their foreboding tales into the listener's mind." - Drum Media "The Growl have a sound that’s a little hard to ignore – their debut single, Smoke It Down, has a bass line so raw and relentless it hits you in the face and imprints itself on the back of your brain, reverberating long after the song has finished." - deathclouds.com
Perth 4-piece The Growl are purveyors of some mighty fine bluesy rock'n'roll. So fine that they've won themselves a spot at at the Perth Big Day Out! Catch them on the Hot Produce stage at McCallum Park on Sunday Feb 5.
Tell us about your music. How did you develop your sound?
It was all mostly experimenting with sounds and recording, i've always tried to get some kid of emotive content across by the texture or arrangement of the song so even if there were no lyrics you could feel something from the song.
You’re the Perth winners of our BIG DAY OUT competition. What can BIG DAY OUT revelers expect from The Growl live show?
Oh Lasers, confetti cannons, a BOUNCEY CASTLE on stage for each or us and im being dropped in from the roof like Robbie Williams at Knebworth.... I wish!!! It'll be 4 very overexcited twenty something year olds who've probably had too much to drink and been given far too much musical equipment.
What are you most looking forward to about the Perth BIG DAY OUT on Feb 5th? Who are you psyched to see?
Kasabian and Roskyopp
What are your earliest memories of seeing live Australian music?
I went to Yak It Up Festival in Perth when i was about 12 and saw Magic Dirt, but i was so into Limp Bizkit at the time i thought Adalita could have used a red NY hat 'backwards'.
What’s coming up for you in 2012?
Well i found out i have to have a route canal aaannnd my car rego is up so i gotta sort that out.... im moving house this week, but other than that we're putting out a 7" soon and an album in a couple of months too, so touring and recording for the most of it.
Australian music is…?
...severely underrated.

Cam Avery has nailed this vocal and I love the way he hangs on some of these notes. It's a little Mark Lanegan, though not as deep in pitch. Good work guys. You've put a spell on me again with this one.

The Growl is a fitting name, particualrly cause The Growl, The Howl, The Filth, The Fury and The Dark Edge of Blues is too long a band name. Great atmospheric stuff.
