Bio

I used to play in a duo called 'Essay Shepherd" with a wonderful musician called Eva Birch. We have recently decided to try going solo and are both really enjoying the new experience. I am really embracing every/any opportunity that comes my way am grateful that things are going amazingly. Going solo has helped me develop my individual style and discover a sense of confidence in my music. The sound is acoustic soul born from dabbling in bluesy rhythm, jazzy pop and folk festivals as child. My songs are personal, punchy and coloured by the rich and soulful harmonies of my sister Martha Brown, together we create this fusion of styles which sometimes carries a trace of down to earth folkified hip hop.

A more folky version of Fiona Apple? In any case, great voice. The way that the tension builds throughout this song is nice, and the instrumentation is interesting and off-kilter. I also like the deep back up vocals towards the end of the song.

At first I thought there was a lot of Clare Bowditch in what Brown is doing. But she's got more of the jazz folk style going on. She doesn't try and oversing which many do in this genre. I like this track the best of the bunch. Not perfect, but an interesting arrangement.
