Helsinki is a four-piece psychedelic folk rock band, based in Ballarat and Melbourne, Victoria. Formed in 2002, the band has just announced the release of its long-awaited debut album, August. August is a kaleidoscopic 12-song rollercoaster ride of indie-inflected rock, folk, blues and psychedelia written, for the most part as a continous piece of music rather than a collection of 'singles' and 'filler'. The band is made up of 4 members, Tom Caley (vocals, guitar), Brendon Pyers (guitar, vocals), Aaron Bell (bass) and Jon Edwards (drums). Formed in 2002 by Tom, Brendon and Jon Helsinki was originally a 3-piece, before Aaron was recruited on bass to allow it to develop a more expansive sound. This culminated in the writing, recording and releasing of August, a record over 14 months in the making.
