About
Melbourne artist HEXRR creates gothic, synth-laden dance punk which features a dark, emotionally charged aura against energetic drum machines, dreamy synthesizers and heavily distorted, layered walls of bass guitar. After years of performing in a variety of bands such as Uzumaki, Shiva and Ashbel – Jarvis Halfpenny decided to form HEXRR as an attempt at bringing the passionate energy of a full band to a solo project, creating danceable tracks without compromising the punk edge that made previous bands so notorious. Hexrr combines two major musical influences; the raw, echoing warehouse crust absorbed during their time in Melbourne’s DIY punk scene, and a genuine love for bubbly, dreamy synth pop. This makes for a unique sound - equally inspired by local post-punk oddities such as Masses, Vacuum and Mollusc and the dance pop sensibilities of CHVRCHES, Alice Glass and MGMT.
