Akin to their mustelid namesake, Melbourne's Honey Badgers sound both sweet and belligerent, inquisitive and nasty as they tear through their amalgam of alt-country, power-pop and guitar rock. Formed in 2012 by lifelong friends Alastair Matcott (vox), James Pasinis (guitar) and Aidan McDonald (drums) along with great pal Brendan West (bass), Honey Badgers sprung into life at their spiritual home and late-night institution: Pony (R.I.P). Stocked with a taut rhythm section, squalling lead guitar, and unadulterated lyrics, the band went to work on Melbourne's pubs. And along with headlining shows in Sydney and Adelaide the band spent a New Year's Eve headlining a bush-doof in northern NSW. Oft compared to Weezer, Wilco and Wavves, Honey Badgers shows are sometimes sincere, sometimes scathing, and wholly engrossing.
