From the Ngarrindjeri clan in SA, Howie Sumner has slowly penetrated the mainstream airwaves with a fresh approach to Australian music. Writing from a working class Aboriginal perspective, his lyrics are soul-stirring, passionate and real. Over the years Howie has shared the stage with such luminaries as Paul Kelly and Archie Roach but his style is fluid and not easily boxed. He has always managed to find a place to play and sing from his heart whether it be an acoustic nightclub setting or on the stage at Womadelaide. No dreadlocks or didgeridoos, no fanfare.
