About
(Pronounced "High-fra-doll") It was only a year ago when Hyfrydol’s Kat Wells was splitting time between living in London and completing a residency in Laboratoire de la Creation in Paris. Dreaming up melodies on a Fender Rhodes in the basement of an old terrace in 1er arrondissement under the Hyfrydol moniker (a hark back to a childhood of pipe organs and church choirs), Wells developed a sound influenced equally by soundscapes of grandeur from the likes of Working For A Nuclear Free City as the low-fi tape hum of early Sleeping States records. Upon returning to Melbourne, this distinctive song-writing style took hold and the Hyfrydol project grew steadily from a solo act to a four-piece band with luscious vocal harmonies and complex layers of polyrhythms.
