About
The Ides first came together in the autumn of 2004. The last three years have seen their graduation from jam sessions out the back of Brendan’s house to regular gigs around Adelaide, and two demos and two drummers have passed by along the way. In February of 2007 they appeared in Carclew’s acoustic Off the Couch showcase. Throughout the passing seasons, their style has been refined as their repertoire has grown. As they search for a new percussionist, the Ides have stripped back to a trio featuring Romen’s lilting guitar, Peri’s edgy bass lines and Brendan’s soulful vocals. It can be hard to define their genre – one Ide called it ‘sitcom-theme pop’ – but the Ides’ music is sometimes funky, sometimes moody, usually catchy and always lyrical. The band’s emphasis is on songwriting, and they reflect on themes as grand as the state of the world, as private as a glance and as sincere as the love of a shoddy first car. Each song is intended to be the product of careful craftsmanship. ...
