Bio

James D Smith Singer/Songwriter James D Smith has been a singer since he was a young kid. He has recorded many solo albums, his latest being “Invite Me Places” which he has toured extensively around Australia promoting. With a musical theatre background and 4 years as a lead character (Boq) in the hit musical Wicked, James has truly cemented his place in that world. Though the singer/songwriter/story teller is still reasonably undiscovered, those who have found him and experienced one of his concerts are left with mouths wide open. Diving into the Musical Theatre world seemed like a natural thing for James, after years of drama classes and opera singing classes when he was young. James joined the cast of “Wicked” the blockbuster Broadway Musical in 2008/2009. It has been Australia's longest running hit musical, touring the entire country, also Singapore and Korea. With an Indigenous background, music and performing was always a part of his life for as long as he remembers, “My dad taught me how to play guitar when I was young, there was always music in our house, dad would play the didgeridoo and I would play guitar and we would all sit and sing around our backyard fire, it was so much fun. I really miss those days”. James has been a featured singer at Carols by Candlelight not only in his home- town of Albury NSW, but also at the Sidney Myer music bowl in Melbourne and the Carols in the Domain in Sydney. He has been a lead singer on a cruise ship, sung in clubs and bars, he has recorded many backing vocals for many artists and has supported some really great artists, such as Pete Murray and The Whitlams to name a few. ‘Invite me Places’ is James 2nd studio album it follows his critically acclaimed, Sunlight EP. James produced his last 2 releases with Sean Carey (Trackdown/Thirsty Merc) and Bec Caruana (Platinum Artists/Platinum awarded songwriter). James toured throughout Nov/Dec 2012/2013 promoting his album “Invite Me Places” which features singles “Lisa Marie Presley”, “Baby Come Back”, “If you want more” and “The Green Light”. “James has a magnificent voice which reaches out and captures all emotions..” Bert Newton “James is a very gifted artist, he is a great songwriter with one of the best voices I’ve ever recorded, and he works hard- it’s a rare combination.” Sean Carey (Thirsty Merc/ Record producer) “…We were completely blown away by his voice and his immense talent. Quite simply his voice is the best male voice I have ever heard. I was sitting there not actually believing I was hearing what I was.” David Grice (Manager/Prom Entertainment, The Promethean, Adelaide) “Without a word of a lie James would have to be one of the best live performers I have ever seen. Such an amazing voice- SENSATIONAL and PROFESSIONAL.” Dianna Taylor (Coast FM Radio SA) For booking enquiries: Bec Caruana @ Platinum Artists 0422 213 628 bec@platinumartists.com.au
