Bio

Jeffrey James Black is a singer songwriter based in Perth, Western Australia. Jeff is of mixed Scottish and Yamatji heritage and grew up moving between the city and small mining towns. His lyrics often focus on the struggles surrounding his identity.

Jeff left school at age seventeen and joined the Royal Australian Navy, it was here he hoped to find a sense of stability, structure and belonging. Jeff struggled to fit in and was diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety and depression. He discharged after four years and set out to learn about who he really was. Jeff studied aboriginal theatre at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and it was here that he was embraced by a community that he had always felt “too white” to belong to. Jeff also started playing guitar and singing and went on to study music at WAAPA.

Since graduating he has played all over Perth with his original band Fever Dream and has released his debut single Pizza Tray.

Two of WAs best emerging voices on one track! Reminds me of early kisschasey.

Jangly Australiana at it's best! JJB walking the paths of some of our finest songwriters in this clever quippy self reflective indie folk rock gem. Keep it coming Mr Black!
