Bio

Melbourne-based artist and songwriter Jo Kathleen Marie has released her new single ‘The Next Step’, this March 2016.

Playing her first headline show in the covert cinema room of one of Melbourne’s live music best-kept secrets LongPlay, the single was launched in front of a sold out audience with special guest ‘Vinten’.

"...echoes the ethereal brilliance of 'Daughter'..." (The Revue)

"...great use of space and silence. The tender vocal delivery and smooth harmonies in The Next Step enable her to carry a heavy subject with grace.” (AAA Backstage).

“…a poignant song which helps raise awareness of mental health issues, something we as a nation still don’t talk enough about.” (Sounds Of Oz).

'The Next Step' was recorded in a bedroom-studio by artist and producer Alexander Biggs, reflecting a true DIY-collaborative work ethic that has become the backbone for Jo Kathleen Marie's music.

Emerging from a creative music background, Jo relocated from her hometown Mildura in regional Victoria in 2012. Paired with her pre-loved Telecaster and an inspiration for composing visual narratives, Jo Kathleen Marie creates music best described as naturally dynamic, laced in textural ambience and warmth.

Jo first introduced herself in 2014 with the independent release of her debut single 'Four Years' and soon followed this with the second release of the introductory pair, 'Never Forget'.

I like what's happening here, even if it feels a bit familiar.

Some beautiful warmth going on with this song, lot of emotion in the vocal too.
