Bio

John Flanagan and the Begin Agains blend traditional Americana stylings with deeply honest Australian storytelling to create their simple and expressive style of bluegrass/folk music. With influences including Alison Krauss and Nickel Creek this four-piece Melbourne band has developed a unique sound characterized by warm, crystal clear vocal harmonies and delicate acoustic textures. 'Meet Me In Between' (2009) is John's debut solo album and has been praised for its rich honesty and heartbreaking beauty. The songs, reflecting on themes of love, passions and hardships, were written by John over the last three years and during his travels around Australia in early 2008. Adding warm vocal harmonies and delicate instrumentation to the album are “the Begin Agains”: Jane Patterson, Andy Zito and Mark Zito. John Flanagan has been performing around Melbourne since 2004 as a singer/songwriter and front man for 5-piece Melbourne band Glory Tuesday. For the past 5 years he has performed at venues and festivals around Melbourne, regional Victoria, NSW, Queensland and South Australia. Since late 2008 he has been promoting ‘Meet Me In Between’, performing solidly around Melbourne with the Begin Agains and preparing to tour in 2010. In 2009 John won a prize in the Melbourne Songwriters competition and earlier this year he performed at the TREC as a finalist for the 2010 Toyota Star Maker at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
