Bio

Hailing from Sydney’s south-west, Jordan Greig (previously known as Monchichi) is a charismatic composite of his proud Australian/Fijian heritage and American musical influences.

Growing up around music and falling in love with hip-hop at the age of six, Jordan Greig first started writing rhymes while in high school. After recording several freestyles which garnered spins on community radio and nightclub play, then releasing his debut mixtape “Welcome to the Mad House” with DJ Leon Smith, it was time for Jordan Greig’s career to take the next step.

From recording his first single and music video, “Slowing Me Down” featuring Empress MC & Colourd Noyz, and soon after an independent full-length album with Colourd Noyz “Saying Ain’t Doing” (featuring the single “Work”, which landed in the Triple J Top 100 Unearthed Charts) in 2012, Jordan Greig caught the ear of legendary Australian producer Chasm and soon after the pair released the critically acclaimed “Smoking Aces” EP through Obese Records.

Consistently maintaining a strong stage presence at hip hop shows around Australia, Jordan Greig has performed alongside such names as Big Sean, Smoke DZA, David Dallas and DJ Quik (and countless others), and also headlined the first ever “Crooks Live” event – a night run by the Halfway Crooks DJ crew to showcase the cream of Australia’s young musical talent.

With a sound that is both unique (without being avant-garde) yet accessible (without being formulamatic), Jordan Greig is destined to make his mark on the Australian hip-hop landscape in the immediate future.

Monchichi rides this slow, thumping beat effortlessly. Good to hear this type of hip hop made in Australia and made well. So turn the bass up, then the volume, then press play. Boom.
